texchain 2

Create a cross-industry collaboration to prioritize issues related to circular conversion in textile residual flows. The project will develop a framework and a design for a marketplace for textile industrial waste.

BACKGROUND

Most of the industrial textile waste is incinerated today, thus ending the circular possibility of a material that could otherwise be reused without losing an important resource. There is currently a lack of a method and an action plan for how companies should enable efficient collection, logistics, traceability and transparency of textile residual streams.

CHALLENGE

There are difficulties in obtaining traceability in the materials and the textiles are often of low quality. There is also no functioning infrastructure in the area, making it difficult for companies to take the step of switching from incineration to collection.

SOLUTION

By securing volumes of the residual textiles and that the materials are traceable, it simplifies the deal for buyers and sellers of textile residual streams.

RESULT

A wireframe for the marketplace has been produced and a proof of concept has been presented for the reference group. Further development of the collaboration platform and marketplace for textile residual streams will be implemented in TexChain 3.
